Parent Education Nights: Welcome Back!

The Purpose of Parent Education

The secret to a satisfying and great Montessori experience comes from the relationship built between school, family, and community. The Parent Education series are conversations focused on supporting parents during each stage of their child’s development, as well as a time to gather socially and support one another. During these events, parents are invited to explore the theory behind their child’s education, experience the classroom hands-on, and to ask questions. Even our “veteran” parents are still learning!

Families engage in role-playing during our Back-to-School Orientation

We always begin the year with an introduction to each classroom. Parents have the opportunity to get to know one another, to find out: ‘who is the mother, father, grandparent of the child your son or daughter keeps talking about?’

Primary Welcome Back Night

Our focus was an introduction to the Human Tendencies and creating an environment that supports those. We viewed the different areas of the classroom, and went through how we can create prepared environments at home that support our child’s development and growth.

When confronted by situations which concern the child and seem difficult to solve, do not seek outside remedies but concentrate upon the nature of the child and the essential needs of his development.”

“The Human Tendencies and Montessori Education” Mario Montessori (1956), p. 2

Elementary Welcome Back Night

Our focus was on the journey from Primary education, into Lower Elementary and Upper Elementary; the evolution of asking “what” to “how” and “why.” We discussed nature in the classroom, how freedom and responsibility support one another, and how a family can support their elementary child’s education at home.

“There is a great sense of community within the Montessori classroom, where children of differing ages work together in an atmosphere of cooperation rather than competitiveness. There is respect for the environment and for the individuals within it, which comes through experience of freedom within the community.”
