Our beautiful trees are a hallmark of our school, and we’ve been upgrading the play features over the past two years.
We’ve been determined to thrive after the hurricanes. We prioritized how we will quickly move forward to improve our students’ learning environment and support their development – academically, socially, physically, and emotionally.
Our playground is getting a makeover – with design input from our children and the building help of our SCM community!
Play by Design is a group of playground designers and building consultants who work with community volunteers to produce custom-designed play structures for toddlers, preschool, and school-aged children. All members of their team are Certified Playground Safety Inspectors (CPSI) with broad experience in the community-built field. Examples of their work can be found throughout North America, as well as in Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
Play by Design’s mission is to create unique, safe, and affordable all-inclusive play structures that provide a recreational environment in which all children can grow physically, socially, and cognitively. Their creative structures are well known for their inclusion of imaginative play and sensory-stimulating activities.

We are incredibly excited about this project!
It captures St. Croix Montessori’s mission and reflects our commitment to providing children a natural environment to express themselves. Students have already drawn up pictures of their playground ideas, which we’ve shared with the Play by Design team. Over the coming weeks we’ll be fundraising, seeking sponsors for materials, and organizing our volunteers for the March build.
Christina McPherson (mom of Tristan in Elementary) is the Coordinator for this project. Get ready to create an incredible experience for our children and SCM friends!
