We hope that you had a restful and pleasant winter break, and that your power has returned! You may have noticed the sweet sound of silence – our power has been fully restored, giving us a wonderful gift before the winter break. Be sure to check out the video of our elementary children serenading the Linemen on Facebook.
We want to share our appreciation for your resiliency, compassion, and dedication to preparing your children to be responsible, respectful, critically-thinking citizens in the world. We are looking forward to the growth, development, and success of 2018!
Some kind notes in response to our Hurricane Maria Recovery Relief Fund report.
“The very complete, heartfelt and hard to believe story of recovery and return to learning.”
“We were deeply touched by the integrity and compassion of our families, and the amount that you have accomplished.”
Aftercare services resume on Monday, January 8th from 3:30PM – 5:00PM.
- Fee for Aftercare is $10/day.
- Late Pick-up fees begin at 5:15PM as a dollar per minute late and require payment upon pick-up of child.
Our former summer program intern, Khailiaha Danielson, will be joining us to assist in after school activities. Not only is Khaliaha a cousin of Elementary-student A’Jiydah, she has a strong interest in Early Childhood Education and Montessori. She has been studying Early Childhood at school and is loved by the children. We are happy to have her returning!
Best Wishes to Rochele Hanley
As many of you know, Ms. Rochele has been working with the FEMA Disaster Centers to provide counseling services to our community. She has an opportunity to work with them on a full-time basis with Island Therapy & FEMA Counseling Centers. We wish Ms. Rochele the best of luck on her new position and thank her for her service to our school. Her smile and laughter will be missed. Ms. Rochele’s last day of employment at St. Croix Montessori was on Monday, January 8th.
Office Manager Position & Parent Volunteer Opportunities
Interviews for the part-time position begin this week. Please feel free to share the position description and posting with those you know who may have executive assistant, office management, and fiscal experience.
In addition, we are seeking assistance from our talented parent community for supporting some of the office management responsibilities, such as school communications, answering/receiving calls, guests, etc., assisting with maintaining supplies, and supporting the “non-sensitive” day-to-day needs of our school. If you are interested in learning more, we encourage you to contact us as soon as possible.
New Playground Project
While we still have many more hurricane-recovery projects lined up this year, one of the most exciting additions to our campus is a custom-designed, community-built playground set to join us this March.
In the words of Maria Montessori, “Play is the work of the child,” and after the destruction of our beautiful trees, we want our children to have a space in which to thrive.
Behind the scenes, parents Christina McPherson and Shawn Sammuel (Tristan’s parents) have been setting up the fundraiser, working with Play by Design’s team and myself to help us put in place a healthy, beautiful play space for our children.
Please pass on our fundraiser site to your friends and family – For 3 Weeks, Matching Donations Being Made for Every $ Raised!
If you are interested in learning how you can be involved, please let us know. We’ll be gathering volunteer builders, needing your assistance in requesting tool and supply donations, and assistance feeding the Play by Design builders!
Looking forward to working with you all on this great addition to our school!
