Landale B. Valmond was born in Atkinson, Dominica on March 22, 1921. He spent his years serving the Dominica community as a police officer, rising to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police. After Hurricane David ravaged the island, he moved to St. Croix with his family. He retired from Hess, where he continued his dedication to public safety as a security guard. He enjoyed spending time with his loving children, and extended family.
Mr. Valmond believed in education. He encouraged all of his children to further their education and they have done so. He was instrumental in starting a vocational school in Dominica and that school remains open today. Mr. Valmond left this life on Monday November 27, 2012. Mr. Valmond loved life and enjoyed talking about family values. He also enjoyed listening to the talk shows and would call them with sage advice. He was always ready to experience new things. Mr Valmond lived a full and happy life and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Mr. Valmond was married to his wife Molly for 66 years. Together they had 11 children, 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grand children.
Many of Mr. Valmond’s grandchildren have attended St. Croix Montessori over the years.
In honor of Mr. Valmond’s love for children and passion for education, the family created St. Croix Montessori school’s Valmond Scholarship Fund.
